For mobile machinery, parallel to already established systems, the design and development of alternative drives and drive structures are increasing. Important reasons are the optimization of fuel consumption and hereto related CO2 savings as well as the improvement of the process quality. For an optimal design, comprehensive knowledge of the occurring load and the required power is necessary. As part of a cooperation project of the University of Hohenheim (Institute of Agricultural Engineering) and Bosch Rexroth investigations about existing drive systems are carried out. Therefore a combine harvester was equipped with a measuring and evaluation system for capturing the power requirements of the main functional groups and field tests were performed.
