The investigated seamless pipe line steel grade X80 achieved good/excellent impact energies over a wide range of welding parameters. Hardness values below 300 HV10 can be attained within a wide parameter range as well. It has been shown that it is generally possible to achieve low HAZ hardness values (below 250 HV10) in the reheated CG HAZ which is the most critical area. To verify the sour gas resistance of the produced weld seams SSC tests will be performed. In practice it seems to be more reasonable to apply post weld heat treatment if hardness values below 250 HV10 are required for all areas of the weld seam. The heat treatment parameters have to be accurately chosen to get softening of the martensitic structures and avoid hardening by precipitations.
