For a electric vehicle the rear suspension system need to be lightweight and simplified. Aluminium material has been widely used for lightweight of car. The weight of rear suspension can be reduced by using aluminium material and hydroforming process instead of steel. This paper deals with how to improve and optimize the formability of trailing arm among the rear suspension parts when the steel tube with 440MPa tensile strength are applied through FEA simulation, prototyping and analysis of the quality of part and also deals with comparison of formability when aluminium material is used for trailing arm instead of steel.
