Torsional oscillations in the driveline of heavy-duty locomotives, equipped with mechanically interconnected axles, are analysed in this paper. In order to reproduce the experimentally observed behaviour, a multi-body vehicle model has been implemented taking into account torsional deformability of the driveline and of the wheelsets. An extension of the Shen-Hedrick-Elkins model, based on a temperature dependent friction coefficient, is proposed for reproducing the negative slope of the creep force-creep curve experimentally measured at high creepages, occurring during manoeuvres at adhesion limit. The proposed contact model enables to reproduce the torque oscillations in the driveline during manoeuvres at adhesion limit.
