Tire-soil interaction is of great importance for the design and the performance evaluation of off-road vehicles. A large variety of approaches and theories have been developed for the investigation of the tire-soil interaction, which mainly can be sorted into three categories: Empirical method, Analytical method and Numerical simulation method. The application of the analytical method based on the Bekker sinkage-pressure and shear stress-displacement relationships, and the numerical simulation method were introduced for the prediction of the traction performance of an excavator tire in this paper. The tire-soil interaction model originated from the analytical method was integrated in the Multi Body Simulation (MBS) software-Adams, and the three dimensional tire and soil model were developed in the Finite Element Method (FEM) software- Abaqus.
