The increasing demand for natural gas as an energy carrier will require the extension of the infrastructure for the transport of these natural gas quantities in the course of the next few years. Since large-diameter pipes made of high-strength TM steels provide the best compromise with regard to the required tonnage and the mechano-technological properties, pipelines which are made of steel of the X100 quality will gain in importance. Within the scope of the AiF research project, the results of which are specified in this publication, a material-oriented processing recommendation has been elaborated for the joining of pipes made of high-strength and highest-strength TM pipeline steels under consideration of technical/economical aspects and under variation of the climatic conditions (Tu between -25 °C and +40 °C; rel. humidity 50% till saturation) for the specification of extreme field conditions.
