This paper describes the implementation of a Fault Detection, Isolation and Recovery (FDIR) Strategy based on a message exchange approach to implement autonomous FDIR management on the MARC system. The work was carried out within the framework of the Modular Architecture for Robust Computing (MARC) mini-project which is an ESA GSTP-funded activity being undertaken by EADS Astrium UK (referred to in this paper as Astrium), SciSys, and Systems Engineering & Assessment Ltd (referred to in this paper as SEA). It is aimed at developing a decentralised onboard computing strategy and architecture which uses a reliable SpaceWire (SpW) communication network to connect a number of processors, memory and I/O nodes/modules together. MARC is targeting future space missions which require a flexible and reliable computing architecture.
