Spiral-welded pipes currently being used successfully in high-pressure service in oil and gas pipelines and has been in operation safely for many years. The requirements of line pipe become more and more stringent due to the operating condition (high pressure), gas or oil composition and environmental conditions lead to complex line pipe requirements like good toughness, good weldability, corrosion resistance and higher strength. The development of line pipes grade X60 (API 5L) for sour service application is a challenge that both pipe mill and steel plant are in cooperation to overcome the steel material and the method of manufacturing have to meet the market requirements. This paper presents the latest results on high strength steel for use as onshore pipeline X60 (API 5L) for sour service application in oil and gas industries.
