Mercedes-Benz vehicles -like no others- stand for safety, reliability and endurance on the highest quality level. The mission of the durability department within the development of commercial vehicles is to guarantee these attributes for current and future model series. The particular challenge is to match the test programs with representative customer applications in order to fit the market needs regarding durability and with respect to the opening of light weight and payload potentials. Between 2006 and 2008 a new Development- and Test Center with a world wide unique rough road test track was built-up close to Wörth plant. With its 14 characteristic test tracks, it is the basis for an application specific durability testing of Mercedes-Benz Trucks, today. As a special feature, a so-called Driver Guidance System has been developed in collaboration with ICT Software Engineering Ltd. This assistance system for the control, monitoring and documentation of the testing progress cross-links all testing procedures within an integrated testing process. Due to this and the minimization of driver's influence, testing reproducibility and quality are increased considerably. An optimization algorithm as part of the systems traffic control results in a more efficient testing.
