Beam adaptation in relation to environmental information is a focus of current front lighting developments. The first vehicles with such highly adaptive systems will enter the market in 2010 in Xenon technology. In parallel to that the market is demanding solutions in LED technology in order to provide the full lighting functionality for the premium segment. On the other side LEDs are entering another new and interesting market as power efficient lighting solution in order to reduce power consumption for electrical and hybrid vehicles. For optimized motorway beam performance, Valeo has developed a new module that provides three light distributions. This module is an evolution that has been derived from a Bi-Function Xenon projector unit by adding one additional position. The use of the so called image folder allows to achieve an increase of the maximum intensity for motorway beam as well as a change of the position of the cut-off. The maximum illumination that can be achieved is about E=130lx and gives a real perceived user benefit that can be experienced while driving on a motorway.
