Overhead presentation. A carbon fibre reinforced plastic high lift structrue has been optimized using HyperWorks software. A flap structure combines different problems regarding the optimization of a CFRP structure. The inner flap of A320 family has been used as baseline structure for the adoption of a new optimization process. The process scheme for optimization is outlined in the paper. Possible design approaches; free size optimization; shuffling super plies; sizing and shape optimization on super-ply level is presented. The authors concludes that within a period of 2 month the shape and sizing process for composite aircraft structures was established. Enormous time benefit within development process of new concepts compared to the previous iterative dimensioning process. Improvement of results concerning e.g. the weight considering all given constraints could be reached. Regarding the optimized high lift structure flap a high weight saving potential could be shown.
