The aircraft manufacturers understood, since the codes reached a sufficient maturity, the need for using the electromagnetic modeling for better controlling electromagnetic couplings on on-board systems while minimizing the test duration of measurement of stress on the aircraft. MOVEA (MOdele de Vulnerabilite Electromagnetique Aeronef : modeling the electromagnetic vulnerability of aeroplanes) project, launched by the DGA (Direction Generale de l'Armementis = the French government agency for weapon systems), recently concluded that the aircraft manufacturers could claim to use the modeling of the stresses like a key point of their definition process and qualification. This project also showed that the modeling of the vulnerability of the avionics equipment was possible and provides sufficient advantages to the overall process so that aircraft manufacturers and equipment manufacturers work together to achieve it. Undoubtedly the extreme standardization of the qualification tests of onboard equipment made less attractive these methods for the equipment manufacturers at first. Today, the requirements of a total control for the critical systems, of reduced development cycles, and effective management of the amendments due in particular to the obsolescence of the components modify the facts of the cases. The modeling of the vulnerability of the avionics equipment items will represent a major improvement, the more so as the standard reference, the models of circuits and components, and the data bases to feed them are reaching the necessary maturity.
