A new mechanical gas-tight sampler has been designed to collect hydrothermal fluids at the seafloor. In order to optimize the design, the dynamic mathematic model of the sampler is built by the theory of hydrodynamics. Based on dynamic software AMESim, the dynamic characteristic of the sampler is analyzed. According to the mathematic model and the simulation result, the dimension of the orifice is determined in different seafloor pressures for assuring sampling the designed volume of samples. The optimized sampler has been successfully used in the pressure tests.
