The efficiency of applying various technical aids onboard marine vehicles substantially depends on proper account of navigational and dynamic parameters of these aids. At present to account for the deformations, several gyro stabilization systems (GSS) are mounted onboard the ship and arranged in the areas, where the most error sensitive GSS data users are installed. This solution is however non-optimal as regards the cost and reliability criteria. That was the reason to develop a hull deformation meter (HDM) - a small-sized low-cost gyro device, which is capable to generate the required parameters at the user location. In HDM development, the deformation measurement methods based on gyrotechnologies and space navigation systems were considered. The following methods of deformation measurement were analyzed: - use of group GSS comprising two or more gyro devices, - use of three-dimensional meters of angular rate vector, - use of satellite navigation system (SNS) receivers with spaced antennas. The group GSS comprises several individual GSS to eliminate the influence of the ship hull deformation; the gyro devices of these systems are installed in different parts of the ship. On the basis of the attitude angles measured in gyro devices locations, the mathematical model of the ship elastic line is refined (e.g. the factors of the second-order polynomial). The method of three-dimensional meters of angular rate vector uses the ship deformation measurement method based on the analysis of difference of angular rates in two points. Small deformation angles make it possible to use the linear dependency of angular rates measured by two triads of angular rate sensors (ARS) on the deformation angles. The third method involves application of SNS receivers with spaced antennas. A wide range of such devices is available now. GLONASS and global positioning system (GPS) equipment determine the object attitude by interferometric methods, i.e. measure the directions using the phase difference of the signals received by the antenna system.
