Design for electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) is an issue which has rapidly increased in importance in recent years, driven by legal, reliability and commercial demands. This paper analyzed working principle and electromagnetic (EM) characters of signals adopted by a typical powertrain control module (PCM). By using measures such as shielding, cabin dividing, grounding, power protecting and drive cable interference suppressing, the conducted emission is reduced by 20 dB; meanwhile, the radiated emission is reduced by 30 dB compared to system without any measurements. Finally, the EMC authentication corresponding to ground military equipments in US Mil-STD-461D has been achieved.
