Additional improvement in the existing safety level seems to be possible using active measures. Currently, several activities have been started in the automotive industry to enhance the standard of safety. To meet the general expectations of drivers with regards to safety measures, the false alarm rate of the sensing system has to be extremely low. It is absolutely necessary to make sure that the quality of the system meets the requirement. The system proposed in this paper is therefore based on an appropriate number of sensors. This reflects the target of the so-called 'democratization of safety. A novel method to combine all signals of the individual sensor has been developed to avoid false alarms and maximize correct detections simultaneously. This paper deals with a pre-crash system which can be applied in a secure process for a vehicle. One necessary and important requirement should be achieved in this case, an extremely low false alarm rate. A system design and an evaluation approach for this safety system will be addressed in this paper.
