First of all a description of the deep-sea environment is given. In opposite to shallow water where temperature, salinity and currents are influenced by the weather the environmental conditions in the deep-sea are more stable. Temperature is between 6 deg C and 2 deg C from 1000 m to 3000 m water depth and the oxygen content of the sea water is permanently close to saturation. This has to be kept in mind during the construction phase and choose of materials which should be corrosion resistant. The current speed is normally at about 3 cm to 6 cm/sec, but in regions close to the continental shelf periods from a few hours up to 100 days with current speed of up to 36 cm/sec can occur (so called benthic storms) and bring the very fine particle of the deep-sea sediments into suspension. The hot surface of the cooling system can start precipitation of calcium carbonate out of the sea water and reduce the cooling ability. In the second part of the study possible impacts of the Multiphase Boosting System on the deepsea environment are described. The MBS will squeeze and compress the sediments when it is launched to the deep-sea bed and leaking the lubrication oil will kill the living organisms in and on the surrounding seabed as well. Main concerns are expressed about the noise which will be created permanently when the MBS works.
