In this paper, the use of hazard models for electronic systems in railway operation and control is discussed. The focus is on how such a model can be used in order to supply the required information supporting the safety process and providing an argument structure in a safety case according to CENELEC standards EN 50126-1 and EN 50129. The main goal is an explicit depiction of the hazards in a functional and technical context in order to increase the quality and reusability of a safety case as well as an easier assessment of electronic systems in railway operation and control.
