In this paper, a methodological approach is presented for the vehicle ride evaluation taking the time-domain driving pattern into account. For this purpose, a driving cycle is developed for the city of Tehran which represents the real traffic conditions. This driving cycle is then combined with the road surface irregularities measured in the same city. The measured road profile is also merged with some other driving patterns and different traffic conditions. Subsequently, using the vehicle simulation, the ride indices are calculated. The influence of the driving pattern on the ride quality is then discussed. The results show the effectiveness of the approach where it provides the possibility of vehicle ride evaluation taking the driving condition into account. In addition, analysis of the results reveals that the ride index value depends strongly on traffic condition characterised by the average speed and idle time. The results obtained in this study show that the time domain analysis is essential for the evaluation of the ride quality in the city driving conditions, in particular, where the average speed is low and the idle time is high.
