This study was based on an actual project for the design, development, production, and aftermarket service management of a cast aluminum wheel program for a Japanese OEM customer. Use of Quality Function Deployment (QFD) as a product quality management is no more new to western companies but the unique fact about this project was the uniform application of QFD methodology to all stages of a product life cycle. This paper provides a step step explanation of every stage of project with critical analyses of how QFD methodology help in making sound decisions. A good product is always an optimal solution of so many constraining factors, so the team must look at system optimization as a whole as opposed to many localized optimizations, and the project success depends heavily on perception that it will help in producing better product, if that perception is not developed in the beginning, people lose interest at times.
