The overall cost of a pipeline is relatively expensive and highly dependent on pressure losses determining its diameter, design pressure and compression station sizing. Pressure losses can be reduced in using an internal coating, properly selecting the coating type and its application. However, there are some limitations in pressure loss reduction when an internal coating is applied in a conventional way. Two techniques could be used for enhancing the fluid flow: Ultra smoothing and structuring of the coating surface. The first method reduces the roughness of an epoxy coating and its flow drag by 15% - 25% compared to conventional application (medium - large Reynolds). The second method brings the flow drag below the smooth surface one providing further drag reduction : 10% - 20% depending on the structure type (low - medium Reynolds). Combining these two techniques provides a flow drag reduction of the order of 20% to 30% depending on several parameters.
