This paper outlines the main steps required to successfully introduce adhesive bonding in a shipyard. It starts with specifying the requirements for the jointfor the whole life cycle of the bonded joint. Next materials are selected and the joint is designed and analysed. Joint testing, both mechanical testing and fire testing is described. Next, the key factors for successful joint production are discussed together with a brief description of non-destructive inspection of bonded joints. Moreover, a new approach to class approval of bonded joints is presented.
