In recent years, global environment issues have triggered the active development of hybrid vehicles which are capable of achieving high fuel-efficiency and low emission. Auxiliary system parts which were conventionally driven by the engine are starting to be driven by motors. These parts need to be small in size and light in mass for better mountability, and should be highly efficient in terms of achieving higher fuel-efficiency. In this development project, the motor for the air-conditioner compressor adopts segment conductor coils and IPM structure to achieve smaller size and higher efficiency. The technology is described herein. By adopting an SC-wound coil for the motor stator and an IPM structure for the rotor, the authors were able to create an electric compressor with an integrated inverter that is smaller than the conventional unit. Furthermore, the volume of the compressor ASSY was reduced, allowing the unit to be contained in the mounting space of the conventional belt-driven compressor, thereby facilitating the introduction of the electric compressor into hybrid models derived from the conventional gasoline engine vehicles.
