In order to enable the prediction of the noise level inside a commercial aircraft cabin, an accurate computational description for all relevant details of the fuselage and of the cabin is still an essential need. The development of numerical models for the vibroacoustic investigation of cabin sidewall panels of commercial aircrafts has been presented. The model has been validated successfully by means of measurements. The basic methodologies which have been used in this contribution were a coupled FEM/BEM approach and the SEA. By these approaches the dynamical behavior could be predicted for the entire audible frequency range. A validation could be performed for frequencies ranging from the 315 Hz band up to the 8 kHz band. The main features of a coupled FEM/BEM model as well as of the SEA models based on AutoSEA and on the newly developed code OpenSourceSEA have been discussed. Moreover, the dynamical characteristics of sandwich structures have been addressed in detail. It has been shown, that depending on the numerical method, the validation of the structural dynamics can be based on a modal analysis, on a comparison of transfer functions, and on the evaluation of the structural wave number. The acoustic parameters, such as radiation efficiency and transmission loss, have been compared to the measured results directly. The analyzed parameters have shown that the numerical models permit an accurate prediction of the vibroacoustic behavior of complete sidewall panels. Moreover, it can be concluded, that the formulation for the computation of sandwich structures, which has been integrated into OpenSourceSEA by the authors very recently, has shown its applicability for the computation of realistic structural components.
