The mobility of the individual in our society has a high standing and is still growing. That leads to a constant increase - not only in Europe - of registration of new cars. The fast development of the mobility produces not only positive consequences, but causes also problems: consumption of precious raw materials, ecological damage due to the production of combustion exhaust gases. These are only some of the important problems on which R&D teams worldwide research and try to find a solution making the burning process in the motor of the car more efficient, That means reduction of fuel consumption and exhaust gas production. As a leader in the field of piezo materials and their application (techniques, technologies) Siemens started the production of the Piezo-Diesel-Injectors in the year 2000. The advantages of the piezo injector are a great innovational push for fuel- and exhaust gas reduction. All competitors and car manufactures started in the year 2004 with this new technique of piezo injectors for diesel - and gasoline engines worldwide. Other application fields of this piezo-stack technique allow innovative solutions as piezo-motors and pumps, active noise and vibration control.
