The purpose of this paper is on one aide, to describe the military space environment, and particularly SGEMP and ECEMP electromagnetic constraints supported by a geostationary satellite, and on the other side the hardening process to protect the satellite against those constraints. The emitted radiations during a nuclear explosion, even of low intensity, make a satellite vulnerable. However, in some conditions, in particular for GEO satellites, it is possible to protect them from natural space extended industrial processes and technologies to minimize the holding cost. Nevertheless, the acquisition requires a development process that covers the civilian space process. It shall take into account the new specific nuclear constraints and include a justification approach stall levels to prevent oversizing of the protection and excessive costs, and in the worst case, the uncalled-for risk to abandon the hardened solution for non-feasibility reason. This paper shows that the application of a methodology coming from the military field can be applied to the space field.
