Currently the automotive industry is working worldwide on the direct wireless communication between vehicles and between vehicles and stationary infrastructure. Possible applications are entertainment and traffic information as well as warnings and driver assistance up to self organized traffic. Technical basis for the communication is the standard IEEE 802.11, also known as wireless LAN. In this paper the authors want to present measurement results showing the maximum possible throughput, the behaviour while approaching or departing and the performance in disturbed environments.
