The final goal of this research is to develop a magnetic seat sensor which can predict the entering condition of sleeping of vehicle drivers to prevent serious accidents. It has been presented by many researchers that biological signals are different between an awake state and a sleeping state. The final objective of the authors' research is to develop a magnetic seat sensor which can measure the correlation with these biogenic activities. Torsion bars are parts of the car driver's seat. Torsion stress occurs in these bars when a car driver sits on the seat, and these bars work as a cushion to the driver. In this research, the authors tried to measure the difference of magnetic properties of these torsion bars because of the torsion stress, by a magnetic sensor and applied it to monitor car driver's condition. From these results, it can be said that the newly developed magnetic seat sensor can detect person's weights at least.
