We report the design, main features and on-ground qualification of the dilution cooler qualification model for the Planck mission. We mainly emphasize the innovative cryogenics and structural aspects developed in order to meet the severe requirements of the mission. We also report the results of the dilution cooler itself in the 100mK range after successful tests of the qualification model on a dedicated test bench. (All rights reserved Elsevier).
