In this work a new technology, based on piezo-polymer films excite/receive Lamb waves, for designing and manufacturing interdigital ultrasonic transducers (IDT) is presented. This type of transducers have been proposed for structural health monitoring of large spacecraft structures/components made of carbon epoxy composite laminates. The transducers are designed according to the characteristics dispersion curves of the acoustic phase velocity of the composite material. Several IDTs operating at 350 kHz with three finger electrodes pairs at distance 8 mm, have been used to validate a laboratory model for a complete non destructive testing (NDT) system on large composites structures, even on non planar surfaces.
