The Remora concept, developed by the GESMA (Groupe d'Etudes Sous-Marines de l'Atlantique), aims to explore solutions and advanced technologies to evaluate the advantages, drawbacks, and capability enhancements of the mine hunting systems. In this concept, the quality of data is assured by performance mapping, adaptivity, and the cooperative work of heterogeneous AUV's (autonomous unmanned vehicles). The system consists of DCC (detection, classification and carrying) AUV's and the IMO (identification and marking-out) AUV's, which are used for the detection of mines. When the Remora system is back on the support vessel, an operator can check all data and determine a real mine. This concept offers many solutions to solve the technical and monetary problems associated with the introduction of AUV's as well as human/robot interaction issues.
