The recently agreed revisions of the IMO IBC Code, and MARPOL Annex 11 leading to the reclassification of oils and fats as well as certain other chemical cargoes, has prompted Ken Tree of KTR Maritime to profile Handytankers, the world's largest pool of handysize chemical/product tankers. Maersk Handy Pool was started by other family-controlled ships from the Denmark's Maersk Tankers and Seaarland Group, the Austria-based Seaarland Group in 1999. D'Amico of Italy joined the pool in 2001. The scope and participation of Italian family-run companies increased when Zacehello-controlled company the Motia Group of Venice entered its vessels in 2002 to join its other family-controlled ships from the Seaarland Group. This review presents a complete overview of the Handytanker fleet - set down in detail by ship name, year of built, DWT, owner/manager, draft, LOA, beam, tanks, pumps, segs, epoxy, hull, IMO 2, and IMO 3.
