With the advancement of shape modelling techniques to deal with free-form surfaces, CAD was in practical use for vehicle style design since the beginning of the 198Os. In this type of CAD, the mathematical model constructed inside the computer is usually converted into a clay model by a NC-milling machine for three-dimensional evaluation. Meanwhile, application of the CG rendering technique has remarkably advanced in recent years making it possible to evaluate shapes and colours on a graphics display before making a physical clay model. However, because colours and shapes are more strictly evaluated by designers, the requirements for practical use of CG for car design are very severe. This paper proposes a CG, DSR, rendering and interactive technique that meets designers requirements. DSR stands for 'Digital Styling Review' . This is the Computer Graphics (CG) System joined know-how all-out effort to support styling and colour design by analyzing automotive design process. DSR is able to reproduce accurate colour and material. The authors introduce an application example in some stages of automobile development process and technologies have used.
