Today, the majority of passengers travel by combustion engine vehicles and only 1 % uses electric transport facilities. This rate is more favourable in case of cities, but it does not influence the fact that basically combustion-engine vehicles are used for public transport because of their lover investment cost, developed infrastructure and their flexibility. After a period of recession in the second half of the 20th century, electrical vehicles play again an increasingly important role in the city public transport. Several factors contribute to this situation, like: air pollution problems in the metropolitan areas, the expectable drastic increase in the price of oil-based fuels, the new developments for higher passenger and driver comfort, as well as, the improvement in the flexibility of vehicles. There are new electric public transport lines under construction in many big cities. The new generation of trolleybuses are presented.
