DENSO developed the 2nd generation common rail system in order to contribute to increased consumer value of diesel vehicles. Essential consumer Values are higher output (fun to drive), cleaner emissions, lower fuel consumption and lower noise/vibration. The system has the new features and functions which lead to the increase in consumer value. - Higher injection pressure up to 1800 bar; - Higher accuracy of injection quantity control; - Precise pilot injection control; - Multiple injections up to 5 times a combustion cycle. The new features and functions are realized by development activities in both the advanced mechanical engineering (ultra high pressure and high response actuator) and the sophisticated electronics technologies. Especially, the essential original technologies such as digital driving force take an important role in creating new functions such as the highly accurate/stable control of small fuel quantity and the multiple injection control. The development of a more advanced common rail and engine management system in order to further increase the consumer value of diesel vehicles will be continued. The function of digital driving force will be more important in this field.
