The comfortability of passenger cars in long-distance trains depends on the efficiency of rubber-metal shock absorbers located between bumpers and the car. A stand for testing the shock absorbers was developed and constructed. Measuring, registraction and visual observation of the behaviour of movable elements of shock absorbers can be carried out at the stand. The motion of the elements is followed using an optical sensor (light conductor and photodiode). The maximum load of 800 kN and maximum pressure 10 MPa (pump driving power 5.5 kW) can be used for testing. After 151 Russian RZP shock absorber were tested, 112 were directed for repairing, 1 was scrapped and 38 were found serviceable.
