Car-body sheets must match the following demands of the automotive industry: drawability, ability of processing in the automatic production lines, corrosion resistance, high strength as well as guarantee of the passive safety, aesthetic look and functionality of a product. These requirements are conformed to aspirations for obtaining maximum efficiency of the manufacturing process. In practice it comes down to minimization of the production costs, maximization of productivity and ensuring the sale of products. Successive development stages of sheets used in the automotive industry are: production of high-strength deep-drawing sheets with required characteristics of the plastic anisotropy, drawing of coated sheets, processing of multilayer clad sheets and recently, drawing of tailored blanks. Taking into consideration such a broad assortment of sheets used for the car-body structure, it is necessary to conduct examinations of materials' drawability which provide information about the current technological stability of a process and possibilities of designing the new technologies. Presented methods for determination of drawability characteristics and methods for the drawing process analysis enable obtaining a complex solution of problems related to drawability evaluation. Such investigations require the advanced laboratory equipment, both for physical testing and for numerical analysis, as well as the experienced research staff. Our department disposes of the appropriate equipment and the specialized personnel which guarantees conducting complex investigations of drawability of sheets used in the automotive industry.
