The use of various designs based on the future of liquefied natural gas (LNG) fleet is discussed. A slightly higher operating speed of carrier with modern dual fuel-electric machinery, can result in lower transportation costs. A new generation of vessels are beginning to emerge however, based on dual fuel (DF) technology. The DF-electric concept is said to offer significantly better economy than the conventional steam solution, due to the higher engine efficiency. To minimize resistance, the vessel has a long and slender hull form, and the design incorporates a Lips fixed-pitch propeller as well as a Lips efficiency rudder, which has been fitted for reducing fuel consumption, noise, and the risk of cavitation on the propeller blades.
