The two simple design problems illustrated for the multi-disciplinary design concept was discussed. The behavior of a composite plate containing a circular hole subjected to an uni-axial tensile loading was also presented in this application. The laminate properties were calculated from the properties of the layers with the classical lamination theory and the strength value was calculated with Puck's criterion. The results show that a multidisciplinary concept might be more competitive than the lightest possible design.
