The 21th century will require abundant, accessible and environmentally neutral energy sources, solar power satellites, transforming solar energy in space and transmitting it to earth constitute an interesting long-term option. Although technically feasibility, these concepts are not competitive with current launch costs. The present comparison with comparable terrestrial solar plants allowed to determine the required launch costs to make solar power from space an economically competitive option.
