Aluminum lithium alloys 2195-T8, L277-T8, and C458-T8 were examined for space and aircraft applications. The fracture properties of these alloys were evaluated at room temperature and in liquid nitrogen, and results were compared with 2219-T87 alloy. Based on the data, a new approach was introduced to estimate the plane strain fracture toughness value based on the structural thickness, initial flaw size, and load magnitude.
