Active influence of embedded knowledge through the work of user-defined knowledge elements, gives the user the impression of working in an environment of experts from various fields, whose assistance he has at his disposal at any moment. Concretely, the above-mentioned virtual manufacturing advisor, by virtue of his knowledge, enables the designer to recognize the field of a technological structure, individually and efficaciously. The reduction of time required for the development of the automotive tire, on which KET (Knowledge-Embedded Template) concept was tested, is estimated at 33%, in comparison with the traditional approach with CAx tools without embedded knowledge. At the same time, quality of the development process has been increased so as harmonization with the demands of other branches of development. During the research, it was noticed that another deficit in the development of engineering systems is the problem of recognition and abstraction of features (as program objects) in the context of real functional features of the structure. The consequence of these shortcomings appears as a need for respecting rigid procedures of design (pre-defined for special purposes), which restricts the designer's creative freedom to a certain extent. Consistent with that, there is an imperative to carry out further research in this direction. Although the research primarily focuses on the creation of the VMA (Virtual Manufacturing Advisor) as assistance to the tire and mold designer in the creation of a manufacturable structure (from the standpoint of mold manufacture), there are a number of other stages in product development where KET concept can be applied. On the basis of such observations, it can be stated that the suggested concept of including knowledge-based technologies in the process of design represents a step forward, from the 'traditional' towards the so-called intelligent CAD/CAM system. In a general case, during the development of any product which uses some of the CAx systems (these also include e.g. Computer Aided environments for software development, or environments for the arrangement of specific textual documents), the concept of CAx templates with embedded knowledge, which serve as virtual advisors, may represent a possible way of including expert knowledge into the CAx system.
