A report from the Surface Condenser Performance conference in Las Vegas which focused on performance of various condenser and cooling system, is presented. Tube material selection for condensers continues to trend toward high alloy superferritic and austenitic stainless steels such as SEA-CURE and AL-6XN. According to the report, all condensers and tube materials foul which lead to increased heat rate, greater losses to cooling water, increased emissions and reduced plant capacity. At 450 MW coal-fired, zero liquid discharge plant, 3D TRASAR achieved an 18% reduction in copper corrosion while managing system to 14 cycles of concentration and 178-hour holding time index.
