This paper investigates the closed-loop properties of a robust four-wheel-steering (4WS) control system via eigenstructure analysis. The vehicle response is decomposed into independent modes via steady-state modal gains. It is revealed through the eigenstructure analysis that the relationship between the inputs and outputs can been decoupled, so that the desired command inputs can be independently assigned. The transient response of each mode in connection with individual inputs and outputs is thoroughly assessed. The influence of parameter perturbations on the output response is also examined, which demonstrates the robustness of the model following 4WS control design.
