This paper presents the solar array deployment tests of an earth observation system, KOMPSAT-2 (KOrea Multi-Purpose SATellite). The tests are performed with no-gravity simulators in ambient and cold environmental conditions. Three types of tests are performed: Small-angle deployment tests in cold environment (-80 deg C), full deployment tests in ambient condition (22 deg C), and full deployment tests in ambient condition after cooling down a deployment system. The no-gravity simulators adapt bungee cord and rail system. Two digital cameras record the movement of solar panels on the top of the deployment system. Small light spots are installed on top of the solar panels during full deployment test in order to increase the visibility. The recorded movie files are digitally processed to figure out the position of each spot at every 1/30-second. Moreover, numerical models, which are generated by commercial software (DADS), are tuned by using recorded trajectory. The calculated acquired displacement trajectory successfully generates well -tuned numerical models for the design of future solar panels.
