Life cycle inventory (LCI) and life cycle cost (LCC) analysis was conducted on ultra-light electric vehicles, particularly motorbike type four-wheeled electric vehicles, that have been actively developed and put to market in recent years. The LCI analysis was made by defining energy consumption and CO2 emission as the environmental loads and concluded that electric vehicles (EVs) produce less of an environmental burden than gasoline vehicles, confirming the predominance of EVs in this respect. The cost a car user pays over the car's life time was also analyzed to calculate the LCC of a vehicle. The results are that EVs are more efficient in fuel consumption, but they cost more than gasoline vehicles in their entire life time, since EVs need more initial cost and battery replacement cost than their gasoline counterparts. The case study identified key issues that can promote motorbike type 4-wheeled EVs, which are reduction of battery cost, reduction of vehicle cost, and extension of battery service life.
