Despite many theoretical and speulative contributions to the interrelation of ICT (information and communication technologies) and transport there is still a lack of empirical findings, in particular concerning the dimensions in which effects can be expected. This paper shall pick up some new empirical results concerning the relation between the use of ICT and transport behaviour, the change in transport behaviour of teleworkers and the effects that may be caused by electronic commerce. It can be shown that there is a certain parallelism between the use of ICT, the dimension of activity spaces and the frequency of activities. Additionally the paper refers to findings from a study on the changing activity and mobility behaviour of teleworkers which reveals interesting effects concerneng the simultaneous contraction and enlargement of the activity space of teleworkers. It seems very likely that the use of ICT will more and more concentrate the everyday traffic and transport of individuals around their homes. At least this is supposable if spatial structures guarantee a minimum degree of functional compound of settlements. At the same time leisure activities will be less restricted to the surroundings of everyday living places as the flexibility of time use could rise with the help of ICT. Finally it will be outlined to what degree electronic commerce induces effects on transport. From the results presented here some first hypotheses about the change in mobility patterns will be deduced and brought forward to further discussion.
