Influence of the air gap between brake skid and rail on the brake characteristics was minimalized by the beam backing eddy-current deflection. The magnetic force causing the beam deflection was found to be a function of air gap width and train velocity. The brake skid vibrations under a kinematic input and damping were also analyzed. The studies were carried out on a mathematical thick-plate model of the brake.
