Dual voltage systems represent a viable solution to fulfill the rapidly increasing request of electric power in modern cars. The paper presents a multiphase bilateral DC/DC converter aimed to equip the C segment of next generation cars, owing a 42 V/14 V dual voltage electric power system. Such a converter increases the compactness of the power conversion system compared to conventional solutions, while improving the reliability. The proposed converter is firstly theoretically introduced and then experimentally compared with a more conventional bilateral topology based on two separated step-down and step-up stages.
