Tyre pressure is the most important variable affecting tyre properties. Wrongly inflated tyres are dangerous and costly. Poor handling, reduced braking efficiency and skidding are real dangers from tyres containing too much, or too little, air. Economically this increases fuel consumption and accelerates tyre wear. Despite this people seem to ignore controlling their tyre pressure, so there seems to be a strong demand for easy and safe way to control the tyre pressure. In this paper both the reasons for tyre pressure monitoring and the current systems on the market are discussed. This is followed by a description of Nokian tyres' pressure monitoring system and the bluetooth technology in general. Also some possibilities of intelligent tyre technology in the future are shown.
